Use a class roster in your planner
Where a page has a column for student names, clicking an empty line lists the students on your rosters, so you can pick a name instead of typing it.
Once you have a roster, you don't have to type your students' names again and again. Some pages have a column meant for student names, such as a class list. Click an empty line in that column (on a phone, tap it) and a list of your students opens under it.
- Select a name to put it on that line.
- Start typing to narrow the list down. If nothing matches, it says No student matches, and you can finish typing the name yourself.
- A line that already has a name doesn't open the list. To swap in someone else, delete the name and the list opens again.
- To fill the whole column at once, use the Fill option at the top of the list: see Fill in student names from a roster.
The list has the students from all your rosters together, in A to Z order.
On a planner someone shared with you, the list and Fill use the owner's students, not yours. The same goes the other way: when you share a planner that has a column for student names, the people you share it with see your students in it.
If the list says No roster names yet, you haven't added any students yet. Select Manage rosters under it to add them, or see Create a class roster.
Good to know
Names you put on a page are ordinary text. Renaming a student or removing a roster later doesn't change pages you've already filled in. A name too long for its line is drawn a little smaller so it fits, on screen and when you print.
Tip
Designing your own table in Theme Studio? A table's cells have a Suggest setting. Set it to Roster names to get the same list in those cells.
