Staff Chat: talk with the teachers at your school

Staff Chat is a private space for a school's teachers, with a channel for each grade and subject, a bulletin board and direct messages.

Staff Chat is where the teachers of one school talk to each other. Open it with Staff Chat in the menu: on a computer it's in the sidebar, and on a phone it's in the bar at the bottom of the screen. You can also go straight to Staff Chat.

A school's space is called a server. Inside a server:

  • #general is for the whole school.
  • Each grade and each subject your school teaches gets its own channel, made from the grades and subjects you pick.
  • A grade's channel has a tab for each subject, such as Math in #4th-grade. It's the same conversation as the 4th Grade tab in #math, so the teachers of 4th grade math talk in one place.
  • Each channel has a Bulletin Board for announcements that shouldn't scroll away. See Post on the bulletin board.

Outside a server, you can message any colleague by email, or start a group, whether or not you share a server. See Message a colleague or a group.

Start a server for your school

  1. Select Staff Chat, then Create a Server.
  2. Type your school's name. You can add a photo as its icon and pick an accent color. Select Continue.
  3. Pick your school's grade levels, then select Continue.
  4. Pick the subjects taught at your school, then select Continue.
  5. Check the channels to be created and the Plan. A server starts on Free, which holds up to 10 people. Select Create Server.

Your server starts empty, with you as its owner and its first admin. Next, invite your colleagues.

Good to know

Staff Chat is separate from a shared planner's chat, which is only that planner's conversation, and from the community, where every teacher can read and post.
