Update the desktop app

The desktop app downloads updates by itself. When one is ready, choose Restart now, or it installs the next time you quit and reopen the app.

You don't need to download anything yourself. The desktop app checks for updates when it opens, every four hours while it's open, and when you come back to its window. Updates download quietly in the background.

When an update is ready, a card at the bottom right says the new version is ready. It installs when you restart, and your work and your sign-in are kept.

  • Restart now closes the app, installs the update and opens the app again, still signed in.
  • The button beside it (Later, Remind me later or Not now) shrinks the card to a small button in the corner. Select that to see the card again. It also comes back by itself, sooner the longer the update has waited.
  • What's new, when it appears on the card, shows what the update changes.
  • Or simply quit the app and open it again: a downloaded update installs when the app quits.

Tip

To check yourself, choose Check for Updates… from the One Stop Teacher Shop menu on a Mac, or from the Help menu on Windows (press Alt to show the menu bar). The bottom of your Profile also has Check for updates.

Good to know

On a Mac, closing the window doesn't quit the app: choose Quit One Stop Teacher Shop or press Cmd + Q. If the app doesn't reopen by itself after a restart, open it yourself. If an update won't install, see The desktop app won't update.
